This standard is intended to provide tests to ***ermine whether covered upholstered furniture components, such as cover fabric, trim cord, decking material, interior fabric, and padding/cushioning materials, are relatively resistant to ignition by a smoldering cigarette.
NFPA 260 Standard Methods of Tests and Classification System for Cigarette Ignition Resistance of Components of Upholstered Furniture
Sample conditions:
Covering fabric sample - for horizontal panels, three 203mm¡Á203mm samples should be cut;
--For vertical panels, three 203mm¡Á381mm samples should be cut;
Internal fabric sample - three 203mm¡Á203mm samples should be cut;
Welding rope sample - three 205mm samples should be cut;
Filling sample - for horizontal panels, three 203mm¡Á127mm¡Á51mm samples should be cut;
--For vertical panels, three 203mm¡Á203mm¡Á51mm samples should be cut;
Decking material - cut a 533mm¡Á343mm sample with a thickness of at least 25mm;
Sample preconditioning: All test interior decoration fabrics and test materials, including cigarettes and sheets, should be conditioned at a temperature of 21℃ ¡À 2.8℃ and a relative humidity of less than 65% for at least 4 hours before testing.
Test procedure:
Place the fabric on the corresponding foam substrate;
Light three cigarettes and place them on the three test components;
Each cigarette should be allowed to burn to its full length unless the polyurethane foam substrate is obviously on fire;
If any of the three specimens is obviously on fire, the smoldering material should be extinguished and the sample should be recorded as Class II based on the test results; |
